The low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet has become increasingly popular in recent years. Keyto, a San Francisco based company, is looking to exploit the dietary trend by launching a smart breath analyser and accompanying mobile app that can determine how efficiently your body is burning fat.
The goal of the ketogenic diet is to make the body burn stored fats instead of recently eaten carbs to create energy. This state is called “ketosis” and produces acids called ketones and acetone. Keyto sensor measures the acetones in your breath to determine your level of ketosis.
To use the Keyto device, users blow into the device three times a day. The Keyto is connected to a phone app which calculates your “Keyto Level” on a 1 to 10 scale that tells you how deep you are into ketosis. The app also includes personalized meal recommendations, program guidance, as well as access to a keto recipe library.
