The Most Beautiful Coffee Table We Have Ever Seen

    3 Mins Read

Thanks to Bruce Shapiro, you can now have a breathtaking piece of art right in the middle of your living room; Sisyphus is a kinetic art table that beautifully combines furniture, art, and technology. It is a dynamic piece of art that creates ever-changing patterns in a pile of sand.

Bruce Shapiro’s inspiration behind his stunning creation dates back to several thousand millennia when the mythical king, Sisyphus, ruled over the ancient Greek dynasty. This king was famous for being punished for his fraudulent strategies in reigning over his people. He was forced to roll a gigantic ball of stone over a mountain, and despite his many attempts, was never able to succeed. The name of this unparalleled invention, Sisyphus, came from this exact story. Bruce had been toiling over this project for more than a decade to formulate its incredible framework and technology.

“Over time I have come to view Sisyphus as more than a kinetic art piece: it is an instrument. As a musical instrument plays songs, Sisyphus plays paths. My goal with this Kickstarter is to get Sisyphus into people’s homes for them to enjoy as both furniture and art, but also, to inspire a community of composers to write “music” for it.” – Bruce Shapiro

Bruce’s amazing product was first displayed in the Art and Science museum in Switzerland. After his initial success, Bruce wanted to find a way to bring this piece of art into people’s homes. Now, you can purchase a miniature version of this breathtaking phenomenon starting at $645. And by miniature, we don’t mean anything less than the size of a regular coffee table!

Imagine a magnificently designed coffee table that constantly changes its design. The science behind this table lies in the two-motor robot embedded in the table itself. This very robot is programmed to magnetically pull a steel ball over a bed of sand. The motion of the ball is exotic to say the least, and each time it completes its path, it leaves behind a trail of Da Vinci-esque patterns that you cannot stop admiring as you sip your morning coffee. You can also customize the kinetic art designs through the smartphone app; change the speed, designate your favorite path, or adjust the lighting for varied ambiance.
